Calling of Rector VIII
Dear parishioners and friends of the Church of The Transfiguration,
We write with joy and gratitude to report that the Reverend John David van Dooren has been chosen as our eighth rector. He and his husband Gary Norcross, a teacher and high school administrator, expect to move to New York in early April, when Fr. John David will begin his ministry in the parish.
Fr. van Dooren has served as rector of The Church of The Atonement in Chicago since 2005. He previously was rector of All Souls Parish in Washington, D.C. A brief biography may be found here.
The vestry's election of the new rector, with the gracious consent of Diocesan Bishop Andrew Dietsche, was the last step required to fill the vacancy created by the mandatory retirement of the parish's seventh rector, Bishop Andrew St. John, in February 2016.
The vestry expresses profound gratitude to the search committee, for its tireless and prayerful work crafting a parish profile and interviewing candidates; to the faithful and gifted priests who offered their services to our parish; to the Reverend Deborah Tammearu, Canon for Transitional Ministry in the Diocese of New York, whose expertise and counsel made our search process successful; and to the Reverend Dr. Ronald Noone, who ably served as interim pastor through earlier this month.
We ask your prayers for the new chapter about to begin in our parish life, that we may fulfill the promise and command of the motto of The Church of The Transfiguration: Fides Opera, faith and works.
