Why Pledge?
Pledging changes everything! When I first pledged a tithe to a parish, my life was formed by it. It had to be! Jesus talks, again and again, about the immensely intimate relationship between money and our “everything else.” It isn’t magic or gimmick - it’s simply one of the central spiritual principles of our Lord’s teaching. When we connect money to our faith, priorities get rearranged. Why? Because money IS spiritual.
We might compare the connection between money and spirit to our Lenten discipline of connecting food and spirit! When we give up a particular food that we love for the 40 days of Lent, we never forget that it is Lent, do we? Indeed, our appetite reminds us hourly of our small sacrifice. Similarly, money and spirit are connected! “Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Matthew 6:21).
Pledging is also an act of thanksgiving. “Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and make good thy vows unto the Most High”. (Psalm 50:14) Through our offerings, we thank God for all of the blessings he has given us. The pledge offerings that are received at Transfiguration help us to offer vibrant liturgy and Adult Education classes, maintain our historic building and peaceful garden, grow our music program, and continue our inspiring history of work for those in need. All of these wonderful ministries would not be possible without the pledges of those in our parish!
Through pledging, you will transform your life, and the lives around you. If Transfiguration is not your spiritual home, I hope that you consider supporting your own parish this stewardship season. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Little Church and supporting the work that we do, you can fill out this year's pledge card and drop it in the offering plate at one of our masses. You can also mail or email it back to the church office.
