Dear Friends of Music,
You are cordially invited to join us for a festive evening to benefit the Choirs of The Church of the Transfiguration on Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM in the Grand Hall of Transfiguration House at 9 East 29th Street (2nd Floor). We offer an evening of wine, food, and entertainment featuring famous songs and past events from the history of the Transfiguration choirs. Proceeds of the benefit go to strengthen the Anthony Mercede Choir Fund, which gives scholarships to the choristers to support their musical education, their attendance at the annual choir camp and special educational events. Our fundraising also supports the Transfiguration Girls Choir, now almost a decade old.
The Transfiguration Choir of Men and Boys is the oldest such choir in America and the only one not affiliated with a school. Over the years, hundreds of boys from a diversity of ethnic and economic backgrounds have joined the choir from all five boroughs of New York City and beyond. Those who pass the audition and commit to the demanding program not only learn music, but also discipline, performance skills, and the value of teamwork. It is an invaluable experience and one that has been a part of the church’s ministry since the 1850s, when boys were first recruited.
The choir alumni include successful people in many occupations, and all attest to the profound impact the experience and training of the choir had on their lives. We hope to have the same influence on the lives of other young people. We look forward to greeting you at this special evening of great food and entertainment. Our fundraising will allow us to continue to enrich the lives of those who sing in our choirs.
By adding your support to our endeavor, you will keep the musical tradition of our church flourishing!
