THE CHOIR OF MEN AND BOYS
The oldest such choir in the United States, the Choir of Men and Boys consists of 16 boys,
ages 8-14, auditioned and selected from the New York metropolitan
area, with diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds. The boys
rehearse several times each week and not only are paid but also
receive incremental scholarships through the Anthony J. Mercede
Scholarship Fund, based on their years of participation. The full Choir
of Men and Boys sings every Sunday morning at the 11:00 A.M. Mass.
To arrange for an audition, contact Claudia Dumschat.
THE GIRLS CHOIR
The Girls Choir
performs traditional Anglican choral anthems and hymns, plus
spirituals and sacred folk songs, about once a month in church and
meets every Saturday morning from 11:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M.
and/or Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 6:30 P.M. Skills
fostered are singing, sight reading, musical understanding,
teamwork, deportment, and performance. Girls will also perform,
during the 2008-2009 season, in the operas “Amahl and the Night
Visitors” and “Noye's Fludde.” For girls age 9 to 17.
THE CHERUB CHOIR
The Cherub Choir
is open to all children, both boys and girls, from 4 to 8 years
old, who learn the basics of music in a fun and nurturing
environment through singing, movement, and games. If and
when an individual child is ready, he or she will also learn to
read music. The cherubs sing in church once every three or
four months and meet every Saturday from 10:00 to 10:30 A.M.
in the choir room.
THE TRANSFIGURATION CAMERATA
The Camerata is a semi-professional
chorus which is open to all adult and
teenage singers, SATB, and no audition is
required. Rehearsals are most Tuesday
nights from 7 to 8:30 P.M.
Last year's performances included
Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors, the
Anerio Requiem, Britten's St. Nicolas, and
Bach's Cantata 8. This year will include the
Brahms' Liebeslieder Waltzes, Bach's
Cantata 78, and Amahl and the Night
Visitors.
The choir also sings during the active
season for special church services and
during the summer months, when it
rehearses at 9:30 A.M. for the 11:00 A.M.
service.
